In a sad piece of news, we announce the death of Benjamin Jeffery of Elkhart Community who was killed during a tragic shooting at Martin’s Supermarket.
Per the report, the tragic incident happened on East Jackson Boulevard. Sadly, the incident left three people dead, including local bystander, Benjamin Jeffery who is now considered a hero.
The report also has it that the incident left two police officers injured, they are, however, stable at the time of writing this article. The incident is said to have occurred on Monday, the 27th of January, 2025.
Reports from authorities explain that the violence started around 5:30 pm, which made some bystanders call the police.
Per reports, Benjamin was trying to protect a woman from her very violent husband, unfortunately, the suspect who at the time of writing this article we have identified as Juan Sanchez, shot his wife before turning the gun on Benjamin.
During the incident, Benjamin’s wife, Valarie was also injured while trying to escape the scene.
Per reports, the suspect was killed in a police shootout.
Authorities are now investigating the matter. From what we’ve gathered, the Elkhart County Homicide Unit has commenced a thorough investigation. Mayor Rod Roberson has commented on the tragedy and expressed sorrow and deep sympathy for the victims.
The community remembers his bravery and has decided to hold a vigil in his honor.
